Ligia Maasland is a Dutch Interactive Media Designer, who mainly focuses on what mentally drives people who are seen as out of the ordinary by society and specifies on mental illnesses and disorders, with the ultimate goal to create more transparency and honesty in mental health care, in order to beat the stigma surrounding mental disorders.
With a special love for speculative design, Ligia Maasland offers alternative scenarios for different societal issues, like (mental) health care, consumerism, and the food and pharmacy industry, by looking at these issues from dystopian or utopian angle.
Being an interactive / media / designer, Ligia Maasland is not bound to one medium and conveys her messages through installations, videos, sound, graphic design, writings, and if necessary invents her own medium.
